More than 100 members of the New Bedford Lodge of Moose were present at Moose Home Sunday afternoon for the initiation of a class of 28 new members. Designated as the “George J. Viegas Class,” in recognition of Mr. Viegas’ recent election as secretary of the lodge, the new members were inducted into full membership, thereby again increasing the largest lodge of Moose in New England.
Following the initiation ceremonies there was a clam chowder. There were two chief speakers during the afternoon, William Eagna, assistant to the attorney general of New Jersey, and Frank LaBelle, Boston, district supervisor of the Moose. Mr. Eagan, who is the supreme vice dictator of the Moose, was making his first visit to New Bedford, and in the course of his remarks, he lauded the city, remarking that he had been greatly impressed by the appearance of the public buildings, the New Bedford Hotel and St. Luke’s Hospital. Another feature of the afternoon’s program was a showing of Mooseheart Home I motion pictures.
