Officials and Wives Guests At Annual Outing of Moose

Children also Extended Lodge’s Hospitality On Occasion

With a huge crowd in attendance, and all having a fine time, the Loyal Order of Moose held its annual outing at Perry’s Grove yesterday. The guest of honor was Mayor Carney and Mrs. Carney, Chief of Police Samuel D. McLeod and MRs. McLeod, and Sheriff Patrick H. Dupuis.

The outing opened with a ball game in the morning, between the senior lodge and the drill team. After a hard fought contest, the large emerged the victorious.

Each year it is the custom of the order to entertain children from all parts of the city. They are provided with box lunches and sports programs to give them a good time, and yesterday was no exception, as there were over five hundred present. Regardless of color, race, or creed, the kiddies were there enmasse. Some had even walked out to the grove in order that they might enjoy the outing, and children were there from Acushnet and Dartmouth as well.

At 1:30 the adults in festive mood sat down to the long tables that were groaning with food, while the tots and older children formed into orderly lines to receive their boxes. Many of the visitors commented on the orderliness of the children and their good manners, for never one during the proceeding did a quarrel arise.

After all assembled had satisified their inner selves, Barney Papkin introduced Dr. Abraham Portnoy, who acted as master of ceremonies. He in turn welcomed all present to the bake, and then introdced Chief Samuel D. McLeod. Mr. McLeod thanked the order for its kind invitiation to the affair and stated that the order was to be congratulated upon its work among the children of the community, also its work in the connection with the New Bedford Safety Council, meriting the highest praise.
