Supreme Vice Dictator Invites Drill Team to Convention
Several lodges of the Loyal Order of Moose were represented here yesterday at an induction of a class of 28 members and at which honor was paid to members singled out for their work in behalf of the fraternity.
William J. Egan, the Supreme Vice Dictator, was guest speaker at the ceremonies held in the North Sixth Street home. After his address, he presented to Albert Berthiaume, an outstanding member of the lodge, a cash gift in behalf of friends in the Great North Moose, Whaling City Legion, for notable service he has rendered to the order.
George Courtney of Old Colony Lodge, Plymouth, was presented a gold past dictator’s badge for meritorious service.
The visiting supreme official was so impressed by the display of the local drill team that he extended its members an invitation to be his guests at the National Moose convention to be held this Summer in Cleveland. As it was Mr. Egan’s first visit to New Bedford, he took occasion to compliment the city for its buildings, public and private, and for the civic progress, he noted.
Other speakers were Frank Labelle, supreme inner guard; Napoleon Hubert of the Fall River Lodge, Mr. Abrams of Newport, R.I. lodge, and Manuel Gracia Jr., of the New Bedford Lodge.
The group initiated yesterday was designated “George J. Viegas Class” in recognition of his recent election as secretary.
